Spring athletes compete in worldwide Crossfit competition
SPRING, Texas -- Athletes from RawHide CrossFit, located in Spring, Texas, will once again compete in The CrossFit Games Open, a competition that brings together CrossFit athletes from all areas of the world. Started in 2011, ‘The Open’, as it is known in the CrossFit community, allows athletes to test themselves against both those in their own gym and others they may have never met.
“It’s a lot of fun to watch your rankings against some of the top athletes in the world and against your local athletes, too”, says RawHide CrossFit coach, Ashley Chiarello. “It really lets you see how you stack up and track your progress from year to year.”
Started in 2007, The CrossFit Games is designed to find the ‘fittest man and woman in the world’, putting athletes through three days of grueling competition before selecting the top athletes in multiple categories. Athletes qualify first through an open, online competition, then for ‘The Games’ through dedicated Regional competitions. This year’s South Central Regionals will take place in San Antonio. Regionals, however, is not the main goal for many of the athletes at RawHide.
“We’re just looking for a fun way to introduce our clients and athletes to competition”, explains owner, Zach Stewart. “Many of our athletes are just starting crossfit, or have never participated in a competition outside of the gym. This is a great way for them to get a taste of the competition atmosphere and, hopefully, encourage them to continue training for other events.”
RawHide CrossFit already has six athletes signed up for another local competition in June.
“Our goal is to add to our current training with The Open in order to continue improving prior to June”, says Stewart. “We’re just happy to see so many of our athletes enjoying themselves while taking on this challenge.”
